Hepatitis A: Presence of antibodies indicates past infection or immunity, while the presence of IgM antibodies suggests acute infection.

Hepatitis B: Detection of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) indicates active infection, while the presence of antibodies (anti-HBs) may indicate immunity or past infection.
